The Selection Tool handles two distinct tasks in one program:
1. Gage Compatibility Verification Enter your gage manufacturer and model number (or gage code for Mitutoyo gages) to confirm whether your gage is supported by MobileCollect and identify the correct cable and Mobile Module.
2. Full System Configuration Once your gages are confirmed, the tool steps you through configuring the complete system: how many Mobile Module transmitters you need, whether RS-232 Remotes are required for your layout, and how many Base receivers are needed based on the number of data collection PCs in your operation. Quantities and pricing update automatically as you build.
The output is a printable, saveable system summary — part numbers, quantities, individual pricing, and total system cost — ready to attach to a company purchase order.
The tool is organized into four sequential tabs. Work through them left to right to produce a complete system configuration.
This is the starting point. You’ll need your list of gage manufacturers and model numbers (gage codes for Mitutoyo).
Note: Gage cables for the Mini Mobile Module and Command Mobile Module are not interchangeable. The tool enforces correct cable selection based on the Mobile Module type you’ve specified.
If your application includes non-mobile RS-232 devices (gage interfaces, scales, or serial instruments in fixed positions), specify the number of RS-232 Remotes required here. Remotes extend wireless coverage from a fixed RS-232 serial device to a MobileCollect Base.
You need one Base receiver for each PC that will receive wireless measurement data. Bases are available in USB and RS-232 configurations:

The Summary tab displays the complete configuration: all selected gage cables, Remotes, and Bases with part numbers, list prices, and a total system cost. Enter a reference name (customer name, job number, etc.) in the Reference field to identify the configuration.

Q: What information do I need before using the MobileCollect Selection Tool?
— You’ll need your gage manufacturer names and model numbers. For Mitutoyo gages, use the gage code rather than the model name — the Mitutoyo database is organized by gage code. You should also know how many data collection computers (PCs) will receive wireless measurements, as this determines the number of Base receivers required.
Q: Does the MobileCollect Selection Tool support Mitutoyo gages?
— Yes. The tool includes a dedicated Mitutoyo search using gage codes across a database of 1,300+ Mitutoyo entries. Filter by gage code, gage type, or both to locate the correct cable and Mobile Module for your Mitutoyo instruments.
Q: What’s the difference between the Mini and Command Mobile Module in the tool?
— Both transmitters support the majority of the same digital gages, but they use different, incompatible gage cables. The Command Mobile Module also supports two-way wireless communication — a Base can send read commands wirelessly to the transmitter, which is required for automated or fixed inspection station applications. The Mini Mobile Module requires a manual button press to trigger a reading. The tool will identify which transmitters are compatible with a given gage, but you’ll need to select the module type before the tool displays the correct cable part numbers.
Q: Can I use the printed summary as a purchase order?
— No. The summary cannot be submitted directly to MicroRidge as a PO. Attach it to your standard company purchase order and send to orders@microridge.com — include billing address, shipping address, and payment information. The summary includes all part numbers, quantities, and pricing needed to complete the order.
Q: How often is the gage database updated?
— The database is updated multiple times a year to reflect new gage compatibility additions and current pricing. Always verify you have the latest version by checking the version number and release date at the top of this page before configuring a system.
Q: Can I install the Selection Tool on multiple computers?
— Yes, with no license restrictions. The tool is designed to support sales quoting and system configuration across multiple workstations. Install it on as many PCs as needed.
Q: What if I can’t find my gage in the database?
— Contact MicroRidge directly at sales@microridge.com or 541-593-3500. Our team can check for unlisted compatibility or advise on the appropriate cable for gages not yet in the database. We regularly add new gages in response to customer inquiries.

Wedge Base EVO — MC-BASE-KW-EVO The full-size desktop Base receiver for stationary PC workstations. RS-232 Base EVO — MC-BASE-RS232-EVO The Base receiver for systems requiring a native DB9 RS-232 output. Mobile Module transmitters attach directly to handheld gages and send measurement data wirelessly to a paired Base receiver. Select the transmitter type based on your gage’s output type. The Selection Tool identifies the correct transmitter and gage cable for each instrument in your configuration automatically.
Mini Mobile Module M3 — MC-MM-M3 The standard transmitter for digital handheld gages — calipers, micrometers, digital indicators, and similar instruments. Compact battery-powered unit (CR2032, 500,000+ readings) that clips directly to the gage body. Wireless range up to 140 ft. Compatible with 3,500+ gage devices across 30+ connector options. Gage cable sold separately — use the Selection Tool to identify the correct connector. Does not support two-way commands from the Base; readings are triggered by the operator via the Read button on the module or cable.
Command Mobile Module — MC-MM-DC Same gage compatibility and physical form factor as the M3, with the addition of two-way wireless communication. A MobileCollect Base can send wireless read and sleep commands to the Command Mobile Module, enabling automated or remotely triggered data collection without operator button presses. Required when the Base needs to initiate readings — fixed inspection stations, automated measurement sequences, or applications where the operator is not positioned at the gage. Uses different gage cables than the M3; cables are not interchangeable.
RS-232 V2 Mobile Module — MC-MM-V2 Battery-powered transmitter for handheld and portable instruments with full RS-232 voltage output (±5V to ±8V). Use when the gage or serial device outputs true RS-232 level signals — not compatible with digital gages or low-voltage opto-isolated outputs. Common applications include Fowler/Sylvac proximity interface gages, certain Mahr Federal instruments, and portable scales or serial measurement devices.
Remotes are fixed-position transmitters that wirelessly relay measurement data from a stationary RS-232 or digital serial device to a MobileCollect Base. Use a Remote when the data source is non-mobile — a gage interface, bench scale, or serial instrument in a fixed location — and a wired connection to the PC is not practical.
Digital Remote — MC-DIG-REMOTE USB-powered (AC adapter) fixed-station transmitter for digital gages and instruments with Mitutoyo-compatible, Ono Sokki, Federal Maxum, or INSIZE outputs. Supports two-way wireless communication — the Base can send read commands to the Digital Remote to initiate measurements, making it well-suited for fixed inspection stations where automated collection is required. Wireless range up to 133 ft.
RS-232 Remote — MC-RS232-REMOTE AC-powered fixed-station transmitter for RS-232 serial devices. Use when the data source is a gage interface, scale, or other RS-232 instrument in a non-mobile setup. The serial port on the Remote accepts data from any RS-232 device. Wireless range up to 133 ft. A USB interface cable is required only if configuring the Remote from a PC without a physical serial port.
