MicroRidge Interface Cable — Mahr Federal µMaxum

The G-FED-MCRO is a MicroRidge-designed and manufactured interface cable that connects the Mahr Federal µMaxum to the standard Mitutoyo Digimatic ecosystem. MicroRidge developed this cable to bridge the µMaxum’s 7-pin male output port to the Mitutoyo Digimatic 10-pin interface — enabling direct connection to any GageWay wired interface or MobileCollect Digital Remote for automated SPC data collection without requiring any protocol conversion hardware.

This is not a standalone product. The G-FED-MCRO cable terminates at a gage interface — a GageWay or Digital Remote sits between the cable and your computer and is required to pass data to any SPC software or collection application. If you’re not sure which interface fits your setup, the two most common configurations are detailed below.

Compatible With the Mahr Federal µMaxum

The G-FED-MCRO is designed specifically for the original Mahr Federal µMaxum digital indicator, which uses a 7-pin male SPC output connector.

Important: This cable is not compatible with the µMaxum II. The µMaxum II uses a different 4-pin female connector. If you have a µMaxum II, the correct wired interface cable is the Mahr Federal 4346021. If you’re unsure which µMaxum version you have, check the connector on your gage or contact us at sales@microridge.com to verify before ordering.

Use with GageWay Wired Interfaces

The G-FED-MCRO cable is the standard connection cable for the full GageWay wired interface product line. GageWay interfaces support the Mitutoyo Digimatic output natively — no baud rate configuration or communication parameters required. Plug the G-FED-MCRO into the gage input port on your GageWay, connect the interface to your PC via USB, and the gage is online.

GageWay Pro2, Pro4, Pro8 — Multi-channel interfaces supporting 2, 4, or 8 gages simultaneously via a single USB connection. Both USB keyboard wedge and USB serial outputs are built in. The Pro series includes configurable read switch ports, data parsing, TIR measurement modes, and AutoBaud detection for RS-232 devices. Best fit for fixed inspection stations, multi-gage measurement cells, and control plan implementations under ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or AS9100D where measurement traceability and process integration requirements are defined.

GageWay SM — Single-gage interface with USB serial output. Outputs to any SPC application monitoring a COM port. Pre-configured for Mitutoyo Digimatic gages — plug-and-play with no parameter setup.

GageWay KW — Single-gage interface with keyboard wedge output. Sends measurement data as keystrokes into Excel, cloud-based SPC platforms, or any application that accepts keyboard input.

Note: The G-FED-MCRO is available in 6-foot length only. If you need a custom length, contact us at sales@microridge.com.

Use with the MobileCollect Digital Remote

The G-FED-MCRO is also compatible with the MobileCollect Digital Remote for installations where the gage is stationary and wired into a MobileCollect system rather than a standalone GageWay interface. The Digital Remote provides two-way Digimatic communication — it can receive measurement data from the gage and initiate readings remotely, similar in function to the Command Mobile Module but over a wired connection.

This configuration is most applicable for fixed measurement stations integrated into a larger MobileCollect Wireless network, where the gage itself doesn’t move but the data still needs to route through the MobileCollect infrastructure. For the majority of single-station or multi-station wired setups, a GageWay interface is the more direct and cost-effective path.

Mahr Federal Maxum vs. Maxum E-2, µMaxum, and µMaxum II

MicroRidge makes interface cables for multiple Mahr Federal digital indicator families — but they use different connectors, output formats, and compatible interfaces. They are not interchangeable:

The Maxum (this cable, G-FED-MAX) uses a 6-pin connector and outputs in Federal proprietary format — compatible with GageWay Pro only.

The Maxum E-2 (G-FEDMAXE2) uses a 10-pin connector and outputs in Federal proprietary format — also compatible with GageWay Pro only.

The µMaxum (G-FED-MCRO) uses a 7-pin male connector and outputs in Mitutoyo Digimatic compatible format — compatible with all GageWay interfaces and the Digital Remote.

The µMaxum II uses a 4-pin female connector and outputs in Mitutoyo Digimatic compatible format — compatible with all GageWay interfaces and the Digital Remote.

Verify your specific instrument model before ordering — connector type, pin count, and output format all differ across these families.

Wireless Options for Mahr Federal µMaxum Gage Families

If your measurement application is better served by wireless SPC data collection, MicroRidge offers wireless connector alternatives for the same Mahr Federal µMaxum gage family — replacing the wired cable with a wireless transmitter connector:

M3 Connector — Mahr Federal µMaxum — For the Mini Mobile Module EVO (M3E) wireless transmitter. Readings are triggered from the transmitter body. Best for handheld or portable gages used across multiple measurement points.

DC Connector — Mahr Federal µMaxum — For the Command Mobile Module (DC) wireless transmitter. Supports simultaneous multi-gage triggering from the MobileCollect Base or SPC software — common in large fixtures or multi-point inspection setups.
