Gage Data Collection System Advisor
Describe your application. We’ll draft the system.
Plan a gage data collection system in plain language
The System Advisor turns a description of your measurement application into a draft MobileCollect wireless or GageWay wired system. Tell it which gages you use, whether they stay at one station or move around, how readings should be triggered and where the data goes. It asks only the questions it needs, then shows the system as a diagram with the setup steps, the assumptions it made and what MicroRidge sales will confirm. When the plan looks right, Configure the equipment opens the Measurement Collection System Builder with your gages listed, where 5,209 gage models from 226 manufacturers are matched to their data cables and U.S. list prices.
How it works
- Describe the application. Which gages and how many, fixed or moving, how readings are triggered, and where the data goes. Model numbers are optional.
- Answer a few questions. The advisor asks one or two at a time and offers answers you can tap.
- Review the draft. Each station is drawn with its base receiver or GageWay in the center and its gages around it. Name each gage, and read the setup steps and assumptions.
- Configure or send. Configure the equipment opens the System Builder with each gage from your plan, or send the system to MicroRidge sales for review and a formal quote.
Example applications
Select one to start a conversation with it.
- Trigger 8 indicators on a check fixture at once and send the results to 1factory
- Wireless calipers at 3 inspection stations, readings into Excel
- A scale and two micrometers at one bench, data into QC-CALC
- An inspector walks the floor with a tablet and measures at four machine cells
- A foot switch to take readings from a micrometer on a stand into Excel
- Tag each reading with the gage it came from in a web-based SPC form
- A hardness tester with RS-232 output, readings into Excel
- 20 calipers shared across 3 shifts, data into SPC software
Works with the gages and software you already use
MobileCollect wireless puts a small transmitter on each gage and a base receiver at each computer, so gages can move between machines and inspectors. GageWay connects gages to the computer by cable, from a single-gage interface to a GageWay Pro for two to eight gages. A WedgeLink keyboard wedge connects one RS-232 instrument, such as a scale or hardness tester, straight to a USB port.
Readings can type into Excel, Google Sheets, web forms and cloud SPC as keystrokes, or arrive on a COM port for desktop SPC software such as Prolink QC-CALC, Mitutoyo MeasurLink and Hertzler GainSeeker. See the MicroRidge software partners.
System Advisor or System Builder?
Use the System Advisor to plan a system from an application, especially with several gages, stations, read switches or software to connect. Use the System Builder when you know your gage model and want the transmitter, cable and price for it right away. The two work together: the advisor plans, the builder specifies.
Questions
What does the System Advisor do?
It turns a plain-language description of your measurement application into a draft MicroRidge system: the transmitter or interface for each gage, the base receiver or GageWay for each computer, read switches, and how the readings reach Excel or your SPC software. It shows the system as a diagram with setup steps, the assumptions it made, and what MicroRidge sales will confirm.
Is it free?
Yes. The System Advisor is free and needs no account.
Do I need my gage model numbers?
No. The gage type and manufacturer are enough to plan the system. When you choose Configure the equipment, the System Builder walks through each gage in your plan so you can find its model by number or from a photo and get the exact data cable.
Does it recommend wireless or wired?
It leads with MobileCollect wireless, which suits gages that move and fixed stations alike, and names the GageWay wired option. For an RS-232 instrument it leads with the MobileCollect RS-232 Remote, with GageWay or a WedgeLink AT as wired options. Tell it if your site needs wired, or if wireless is not allowed, and it drafts the wired system instead.
How accurate is the draft?
The System Advisor is AI-drafted from a MicroRidge capability sheet that is reviewed by MicroRidge. It recommends only what that sheet says the products do, lists every assumption, and marks what MicroRidge sales will confirm. MicroRidge sales checks every system before you order.
Can it give me prices?
Ask, and it gives a rough estimate from current U.S. list prices. For exact cables and prices, choose Configure the equipment to open the System Builder, where you can download an estimate (PDF) or add the system to your cart. For a formal quote, send the system to MicroRidge sales.
What happens to what I type?
Your conversation is sent to the AI model that writes the replies and is kept for up to 365 days so MicroRidge can review and improve the advisor. Please do not include personal or confidential information. See the privacy policy.
Can I try the hardware before I buy?
Yes. MicroRidge lends free 10-day demo kits to locations in the USA and Canada, with shipping both ways covered. Request a demo kit.
What if my application is unusual?
PLCs, custom software, very large systems and instruments that need special settings still get a draft, and MicroRidge sales reviews them with you. Choose Send to MicroRidge, or email sales@microridge.com.
