👉 This Product Replaces the Mini Mobile Module EVO + 06AGL111 Connector Combination
The MC-S-MIC02 delivers the same MobileCollect wireless data collection on the Mitutoyo MDE QuantuMike as a single, cable-free component with one part number. The cabled configuration (Mini Mobile Module EVO plus the MC-M3E-06AGL111-8.0 connector) remains available and fully supported if your application requires it.
The MobileCollect Shape Mic 02 Transmitter mounts directly to the Digimatic output port of your Mitutoyo MDE QuantuMike and transmits measurement data wirelessly to a MobileCollect Base Receiver, and from there into any PC application or SPC software. No cables, no adhesive mounts, no separate connector to order. One part number, one component, installed in about 30 seconds with a standard #1 Phillips driver.
The QuantuMike is built for speed, with 2 mm per revolution spindle travel that makes it one of the fastest micrometers on a production floor. The bottleneck is what happens after the measurement. The Shape Transmitter removes it, sending each reading from the gage into your SPC software with no clipboard, no keyboard, and no transcription step in between.
Because the MDE QuantuMike communicates over Mitutoyo’s Digimatic S1 interface, this Shape Transmitter supports both TriggerSync and GageSync. Your SPC software can request readings on demand, and it can read the gage’s serial number and calibration dates directly from the instrument and attach them to the measurement record.

The Shape Transmitter mounts to the 8-pin SF output port of a Mitutoyo MDE QuantuMike, which carries the Digimatic D2 and S1 protocols. Press either read button and the transmitter captures the measurement, sends it over MicroRidge’s RM2.4 protocol to a paired MobileCollect Base Receiver, and the Base delivers it to your PC, appearing in whatever application is running, from Excel to SPC software to a LIMS. Button press to captured data takes under a second.
For quality engineers, that closes a known source of nonconformance risk. Manual transcription is a documented error mode under ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, and 21 CFR Part 820, and the true cost of manual measurement data entry shows up as scrapped parts, failed audits, and rework long before anyone counts the keystrokes.
The MDE QuantuMike is a production instrument. The 2 mm per revolution spindle travel is the point: fewer turns, faster cycles, more parts measured per shift. Anything bolted to it has to keep that pace and stay out of the way.
The Shape Transmitter is sized and shaped for that. The L-shaped housing wraps the frame instead of sitting on top of it, stays clear of the anvil and spindle area, and does not obstruct the thimble, ratchet, spindle lock, or the gage’s own display and buttons. Nothing about how the operator sets up or takes the measurement changes, and there is no cable trailing off the gage to snag on a fixture between parts.
The MDE QuantuMike carries an IP65 rating for dust and water jet protection. The Shape Transmitter’s sealed construction is designed to preserve that protection at the data port, where a wired connection would otherwise be the weak point. A module IP rating has not yet been established, so we describe the construction rather than claiming a rating.
Most wireless gage transmitters are two-piece systems: a transmitter body plus a separate gage-specific connector or cable, ordered as two line items, stocked as two spares, and joined by a connection that becomes a mechanical failure point on the shop floor.
The Shape Transmitter is a single integrated assembly. The gage interface, radio, battery, buttons, and status indicators are contained in one housing with one part number.
What that changes in practice:
Â
A note on the driver. The mounting screw accepts a standard #1 Phillips, a driver already present in every toolbox and every gage crib. Some competing gage-mounted transmitters require a #0 Phillips or a JIS driver, tooling that is not commonly stocked and is often the reason an installation stalls or a screw head gets damaged in the field. We chose the fastener so that the tool is not a variable.
The Shape Transmitter has two orange read buttons positioned on different faces of the housing. This is a deliberate design decision, not a convenience feature, and it addresses two distinct problems.
Orientation. A micrometer is not always held the same way. It may be in the operator’s hand, clamped in a micrometer stand, mounted in a fixture, or oriented so that one face of the transmitter is obstructed or facing away. A single button dictates a single ergonomic. Two buttons on different faces mean the operator can trigger a reading from whichever position the measurement setup actually allows, without repositioning the gage and without disturbing the measurement.
Redundancy. Buttons are the highest-cycle mechanical element on any gage transmitter. They are the part that wears out. If one read button becomes unresponsive, the second remains available and the gage stays in service, which is the difference between getting through the shift and an unplanned stoppage.
Button functions:
Button | Location | Function |
|---|---|---|
Read (Orange) | Adjacent to the gage port | Gage read only |
Read / Configuration (Orange) | Adjacent to the Setup button | Gage read, and configuration entry in combination with the Setup button |
Setup (gray) | Between the two orange buttons on the upper face | Pairing, configuration, and firmware update mode |
Both read buttons trigger identical readings in normal operation. The Setup button supports Restricted Mode, which disables Setup button function entirely until the mode is turned off, preventing operators from altering transmitter configuration on the floor. Read button function is unaffected by Restricted Mode.
The Shape Transmitter’s L-shaped profile wraps the frame of the micrometer rather than sitting on top of it or below it. That geometry does real work.
It improves the grip on the gage itself. A micrometer frame is curved, and in a wet or oily environment it is slick. The profile of the transmitter and its radiused corners give the hand something to hold. Operators consistently report that a micrometer with a Shape Transmitter mounted is easier to hold than the bare instrument.
It stays out of the measuring area. The transmitter does not extend into the anvil and spindle region, does not shadow the part, and does not interfere with approach to the feature being measured. Nothing about how you set up or take the measurement changes. It is comfortable to use in one hand, easy with two, and can still be used with micrometer mounts.
It shades the status LEDs. The two bi-color LED light pipes sit in the inside corner of the L, where the housing geometry casts a natural shadow across them. Shop floor lighting, particularly the high-lux overhead lighting common in inspection areas and machining cells, routinely washes out surface-mounted indicator LEDs. Recessing the light pipes into the shadow line keeps read confirmation legible under lighting that would wash out an exposed LED, without the operator shielding the gage with a hand.
Rounded corners and a textured case. Every external corner is radiused, so the transmitter is comfortable in the hand across a long inspection run and less likely to catch on fixtures, tooling, or clothing. The case is textured Nylon 12, a tough engineering polymer with good chemical and impact resistance, and the surface finish provides traction rather than slipping.
The case seams and all three silicone buttons are sealed against dust and liquid ingress. The mounting interface to the gage is a flat surface for the micrometer’s SPC gasket, and the integrated Mitutoyo 8-pin SF gage connector is IP rated. The intent is to preserve the IP65 protection of the MDE QuantuMike it mounts to.
A module IP rating has not yet been established. Formal testing is planned and this page will be updated with the results when it is complete. Until then we describe the construction, not a rating. For heavy or continuous coolant contact, contact support@microridge.com.
Same electronics platform as the Mini Mobile Module EVO, same battery performance: 800,000+ readings on a single standard CR2032, in both standard and continuous read mode, or 3 to 5 years of service. The transmitter wakes on button press and shuts off after transmitting, so there is no standby drain and no power switch.
No proprietary cell. When voltage approaches end of life, the Gage Read LED blinks red six times after a reading.
Replacement requires removing the transmitter from the gage: one screw, swap the cell, remount. Pairing and configuration survive a battery change.
Note: These figures apply to normal read mode. Enabling TriggerSync or GageSync requires periodic check-in with the Base, which changes the power profile. See GageSync & TriggerSync below.
The MDE QuantuMike communicates over Mitutoyo’s Digimatic S1 interface, which means this Shape Transmitter supports both capability sets of the MobileCollect EVO API. Both are live and functional at ship.
TriggerSync lets SPC or quality software request a reading on demand instead of waiting for an operator button press, and run a remote TIR cycle that returns count, minimum, maximum, and range as a single result. It is aimed at gages that are fixtured, enclosed, or otherwise awkward to reach.
GageSync opens a two-way channel to the gage itself. Your software can read the gage serial number, model number, gage code, and last and next calibration dates directly from the instrument, and send commands to it including a remote zero.
That second capability answers a question a channel number cannot. In a conventional wireless deployment the record carries a channel, and the channel identifies a transmitter, not a gage. Everything after that is an assumption about which gage was on that transmitter at that moment, and the assumption survives until a gage is swapped between fixtures or a spare goes into service without anyone updating a spreadsheet. GageSync attaches the actual serial number and calibration dates to the reading, either once on request or with every measurement, so software can refuse a reading from an out-of-calibration gage at the moment of collection rather than during a records review three months later. For anyone running calibration recall under ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or AS9100, that is the practical difference.
Both are implemented in your software, not in a MicroRidge utility. They require an EVO Base on firmware 6.30 or higher and an SPC application that supports the API commands, with no license fee. In normal read mode the transmitter works with any MobileCollect Base Receiver, Legacy or EVO. Enabling either does not disable the read buttons, though it does change the power profile, since the transmitter has to check in with the Base to receive commands. If gage identity and calibration status arriving with every reading would change your traceability process, point your SPC provider at the API documentation.
The MC-S-MIC02 is built for the Mitutoyo MDE QuantuMike, the updated QuantuMike series introduced in 2024 that uses the 06AGL111 SPC cable and the Digimatic D2 and S1 interface.
Compatible models: 293-180-40, 293-181-40, 293-182-40, 293-183-40, 293-100-10, 293-101-10, and 293-102-10. All are Series 293 coolant proof, IP65 rated, with a Digimatic D2 output.
Not sure whether your model is covered? Use the MobileCollect Selection Tool or email sales@microridge.com with your gage code.
Have an older QuantuMike? If your QuantuMike was purchased before 2024, it uses the 05CZA662 cable rather than the 06AGL111, and this is not the correct product. See the Shape Transmitter for Mitutoyo Micrometers (MC-S-MIC01), which covers 533 model codes across 18 micrometer series including the previous-generation QuantuMike. For a full explanation of what changed and why, read our guide to Mitutoyo’s SPC cable transitions.
Mounting. Remove the OEM cover plate from the gage’s SF output port, seat the transmitter against the port, and drive the single M1.7 screw with a #1 Phillips.
Read modes. Single (one reading per press, factory default), Continuous (readings at a defined interval), and TIR (minimum, maximum, and total indicator runout across a sweep). Configured in Xpress Setup or Extended Setup. No new software required, but update both to the latest version before configuring.
Pairing. Pair-on-the-Fly using the transmitter and Base buttons with no software, or through either Setup program.
Firmware. Field-upgradeable through MicroRidge’s firmware update utility, which prevents incorrect firmware from being loaded into any MobileCollect device.
Service. T6 Torx for the case, #1 Phillips for the gage mount. A Maintenance Kit, available Q4 2026, contains the wear items: gage connector, button set, and case gasket. The internal gage connector is specific to the Shape platform and does not interchange with M3 or M3E connectors.
MobileCollect products communicate over MicroRidge’s RM2.4 protocol, conforming to IEEE 802.15.4 in the 2.4 GHz ISM band with 32-bit encryption on every transmission. It was engineered for factory floor data collection, prioritizing data integrity and RF noise resilience, which is why Bluetooth falls short in manufacturing environments where MobileCollect succeeds. Duty cycle is under 1% typical, so the transmitter adds almost nothing to a congested 2.4 GHz floor.
Pairing is transmitter-driven. A paired transmitter stores its Base’s unique network identifiers and includes them in every packet, and the Base processes only packets carrying the matching identifiers. In a facility running multiple MobileCollect systems, data routes to the correct Base with no cross-talk between systems. Any MicroRidge hardware carrying the RM2.4 logo works with any other RM2.4 device regardless of generation.
Compatible with all MobileCollect Base Receivers in normal read mode. TriggerSync and GageSync require an EVO Base on firmware 6.30 or higher.
MicroBase EVO USB-A – Dongle-sized EVO Base that plugs directly into a USB-A port. Supports both USB Serial and Keyboard Wedge output modes. Ideal for mobile or tablet-based data collection setups.
MicroBase EVO USB-C – USB-C variant of the EVO MicroBase with the same Serial and Keyboard Wedge output capability. Compatible with modern laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.
EVO Wedge Base – Desktop Base Receiver with selectable USB Serial and USB Keyboard Wedge output. Outputs data as keystrokes directly into any active application, including Excel, web-based SPC, and Power BI, without additional software. Recommended for stationary workstation deployments.
EVO RS-232 Base – Desktop Base Receiver with both USB Serial and DB9 RS-232 output ports. Well suited for PLC-controlled systems and applications requiring native RS-232 connectivity.
The Shape Transmitter MC-S-MIC02 is purpose-built for the Mitutoyo MDE QuantuMike and its Type SA connector. For every other gage on your floor, the transmitters below cover the rest of the shop. All MobileCollect transmitters can be paired to a single Base Receiver simultaneously, meaning any combination of them can operate together as part of the same data collection system.
Mini Mobile Module EVO (M3E) – Use for any handheld digital gage the Shape Transmitter does not cover. The M3E is the universal transmitter across 3,500+ devices with 30+ connector options, and it is the recommended starting point for most deployments. It is also the cabled route to the Mitutoyo QuantuMike, paired with the 06AGL111 connector.
Command Mobile Module – Use when your application requires the Base or host software to remotely trigger readings rather than the operator pressing a Read button. Supports the same digital gages as the M3E with the addition of wireless read commands, standby modes, and multi-module orchestration from a single Base.
RS-232 V2 Mobile Module – Use when your RS-232 gage application requires mobility. The RS-232 Mobile Module is the battery-powered transmitter for handheld or portable RS-232 instruments where a wired connection to the measurement system is not practical.
Digital Remote – Use when your digital gage is stationary rather than handheld and your application requires the same remote read automation capability as the Command Mobile Module. The Digital Remote is a desktop transmitter powered by USB, no battery required, and is the appropriate choice for fixed measurement stations where mobility is not needed.
RS-232 Remote – Use when your stationary measurement device outputs RS-232 data and your application requires remote read automation capability. Supports automatic baud rate detection and is suited for bench-top or fixture-mounted serial devices at a fixed workstation.
Do I need to order a separate gage connector or cable?
— No. The gage interface is integrated. MC-S-MIC02 is the only part number required aside from a Base Receiver.
Which QuantuMike does this fit?
— The MDE QuantuMike introduced in 2024, which uses the 06AGL111 cable and the Digimatic D2 and S1 interface: models 293-180-40 through 293-183-40, and 293-100-10, 293-101-10, and 293-102-10. Use the Selection Tool or contact sales@microridge.com to confirm your model.
I have an older QuantuMike. Is this the right product?
— No. QuantuMikes purchased before 2024 use the 05CZA662 cable. See the Shape Transmitter for Mitutoyo Micrometers (MC-S-MIC01), which covers that gage along with 533 other micrometer model codes.
Does it interfere with taking a measurement?
— No. The L-shaped housing wraps the frame and stays clear of the anvil and spindle area, the thimble, ratchet, spindle lock, and the gage’s own display and buttons. Most users find it improves grip on the micrometer.
Why are there two read buttons?
— Orientation and redundancy. Two buttons on different faces let the operator trigger a reading regardless of how the gage is held or fixtured, and if one becomes unresponsive the gage stays in service on the second.
Does this support GageSync?
— Yes. The MDE QuantuMike communicates over Mitutoyo’s Digimatic S1 interface, so your SPC software can read the gage serial number, model number, gage code, and calibration dates directly from the instrument, and send a remote zero. GageSync requires an EVO Base on firmware 6.30 or higher and an SPC application that implements the MobileCollect EVO API.
What do I need to use TriggerSync and GageSync?
— An EVO Base Receiver on firmware 6.30 or higher, individual channel pairing, a one-time enablement step at the module, and SPC or quality software that implements the API. No license fee, and the firmware is free.
Do they affect battery life?
— Yes. Both require periodic check-in with the Base. Smart Battery Management schemes target 2+ years, 1.5 years, or 9 months, and software can set a fixed interval instead. Transmitters not running TriggerSync or GageSync retain full standard battery life.
Can I change the battery without removing the transmitter from the gage?
— No. Remove the mounting screw with a #1 Phillips, replace the cell, and remount. Pairing and configuration are retained.
Is the Shape Transmitter IP rated?
— Not yet. The case, buttons, and gage interface are sealed, and the integrated gage connector is IP rated, but a module rating has not been established. Testing is planned and this page will be updated.
How far can it transmit?
— Up to 100 feet (30 meters) line-of-sight indoors. Metal machinery, walls, and personnel in the RF path reduce effective range. Position the Base elevated with clear line of sight.
Is the cabled version still available?
— Yes. The Mini Mobile Module EVO with the MC-M3E-06AGL111-8.0 connector remains available and fully supported.
