Ordering the wrong Mitutoyo SPC cable is a recurring sourcing error that grounds inspection stations, delays production, and is entirely avoidable. The Digimatic protocol is consistent across most of the Mitutoyo instrument lineup, but the physical connector on the gage side varies significantly by instrument family. One connector type is compatible with your 500-series Absolute caliper; a completely different one fits your micrometer; another is required for your ID-C indicator. And if your ID-C was purchased after 2023, neither of those is correct.
Every gage covered in this guide can be connected to either a GageWay wired interface or a MobileCollect wireless system — the cable determines the gage-side connection, not the data collection path. This guide organizes every current Mitutoyo Digimatic SPC cable by physical connection group, maps each group to its applicable gage series, and identifies which cables include a data-send button. Use it as a definitive sourcing reference before your next purchase order.
Note: The cable part numbers in this guide apply to the standard Digimatic data output path used with GageWay wired interfaces. If you are sourcing cables for a third-party gage interface, the GageWay wired cable part numbers (905338, 959149, 937387, etc.) are the correct OEM Mitutoyo references to follow. MobileCollect Wireless connector cables are MicroRidge-specific and are not compatible with other gage interfaces. Before mapping cables to gages, two distinctions matter. First, Mitutoyo Digimatic SPC output exists in two protocol variants: D1 (standard Digimatic, used across all current instrument families except the NX-series) and D2 (higher-resolution packet format, exclusive to NX-series ID-C and ID-F indicators). D1 and D2 differ at the data packet level — they are not interchangeable at the protocol layer, though both are read by the same GageWay and MobileCollect interfaces. Second, and independently of the protocol variant, the physical connector on the gage side varies significantly by instrument family. Most sourcing errors trace to the connector, not the protocol — but both matter.
This matters for infrastructure planning: GageWay wired interfaces and MobileCollect wireless transmitters are parallel data collection paths — not combinable on the same signal chain — and the correct choice depends on whether your measurement stations are fixed or portable, not on gage type. Either path can serve the full Mitutoyo instrument lineup.
The connector architecture differs by interface family. GageWay interfaces (SM, KW, Pro) and the MobileCollect Digital Remote accept standard OEM Mitutoyo SPC cables directly at a standard Digimatic header — the part numbers in this guide apply directly. MobileCollect transmitters use proprietary MicroRidge pigtail connectors on the gage side; the Mini Mobile Module EVO (M3E) and Command Mobile Module use different proprietary connectors and are not cross-compatible with each other or with standard OEM Mitutoyo cables. MobileCollect cables are ordered by transmitter model and gage type through MicroRidge. The gage-side connector type is what determines which cable you need regardless of which interface path you choose.

D2 = higher-resolution output (to 0.5 µm / 20 µin) — active now on any GageWay or MobileCollect interface running firmware v5.35+. S1 = instrument-level query protocol; unlike standard Digimatic (which can only request a measurement reading), S1 allows the interface to query the gage directly for instrument metadata such as serial number, model, and calibration data. S1 query capability requires both the 06AGL011/06AGL111 cable and an NX-series gage — it is not available on any other cable type. MicroRidge’s GageSync feature (coming Q3 2026, M3E only) will be the first interface implementation to surface S1 instrument data. MobileCollect firmware v5.35+ required for D2 output; transmitters shipped after June 2023 include this by default.

On interchangeability: Because the gage-side connector is identical across this group, a 959149 will physically mate with an indicator that normally takes a 905338, and vice versa. The button is the deciding factor for workflow — indicator stations typically rely on foot switch or interface-triggered reads, while caliper stations frequently use the data-send button for operator-controlled read cycles. Using a 959149 on an indicator is functional but suboptimal; using a 905338 on a caliper means the operator loses the button and must use a foot switch or hand switch instead. Match the cable to the workflow, not just the connector.

Types A (05CZA624) and B (05CZA662) share the same water-proof Digimatic connector and are physically interchangeable at the gage port. Both include a data-send button and are designed for IP-rated instruments in wash-down, coolant-exposure, or high-humidity environments. The distinction between them is which instrument family each is specified for — calipers vs. micrometers.

On interchangeability: Because the gage-side connector is identical between Type A and Type B, either cable will physically mate with any instrument in this group regardless of the specified designation. If your measurement station layout makes one cable’s geometry more practical — a micrometer in a fixed stand where the caliper-specified cable routes more cleanly, for example — the swap is physically and electrically valid. Both carry the same D1 Digimatic protocol and data-send button circuit.

The 937387 is the SPC cable for standard Mitutoyo Digimatic micrometers. The round 6-pin connector (Type E) is physically distinct from the flat connectors in all other groups — there is no cross-compatibility. No other cable in this guide mates with a Type E port.

Reads are triggered by foot switch or interface. For micrometer-heavy inspection stations, foot switch is standard practice — both hands remain on the workpiece during measurement.
Cable: 936937 (1m) / 965014 (2m) — No data-send button.
The 936937 covers Mitutoyo micrometers and select precision instruments using a flat 10-pin Digimatic connection. The Type D gage-side shell geometry differs from Group 1 despite a similar appearance — the two are not physically interchangeable.

The 21EAA194 is the SPC cable for Mitutoyo’s ID-N and ID-B indicators — the coolant-proof (IP66) variants of the standard indicator series. Common in machine-side applications where cutting fluid exposure is a design constraint. The water-sealed gage-side connector is unique to this group; the Digimatic D1 output is standard and compatible with all GageWay and MobileCollect interfaces.

The 06AGL011 (Type SF, no button) and 06AGL111 (Type SA, water-resistant with button) share the same NX-series SF gage-side connector and are physically interchangeable at the gage port. Their primary use cases are distinct — the 06AGL011 is specified for NX-series indicators, while the 06AGL111 is the primary cable for the Mitutoyo MDE QuantuMike Series 293 Coolant Proof IP65 Micrometers. Because they share the same physical connection, the 06AGL111 can also serve as the only option for an NX-series indicator application where an operator data-send button is required, though its water-resistant shell and retention screws make it less convenient in that context.

This group is not interchangeable with any other connection group. The SF connector will not mate with a pre-NX indicator or any standard Digimatic instrument that uses a Group 1 through 5 connector, and vice versa. This is a deliberate physical break — Mitutoyo changed the connector specifically to support D2 and S1 protocol capabilities that the previous connector geometry could not reliably carry.
The SF connector arrived on two separate instrument families at different times. In 2023, Mitutoyo introduced the NX-series ID-C and ID-F Digimatic indicators — Series 543-70X, 543-71X, 543-72X, and 543-73X — replacing the Type F port with the new SF connector. In 2024–2025, Mitutoyo extended the SF connector to the QuantuMike Series 293 Coolant Proof IP65 Micrometers. Both instrument families use the same physical connection and are served by the same cable group, but if you purchased a QuantuMike before the connector update you may still have the previous cable type — verify before ordering. Both transitions introduced two protocol capabilities not present on any other connection group:
Digimatic D2 delivers higher-resolution measurement output — down to 0.5 µm / 20 µin — and represents a meaningful step forward in precision data collection. D2 is fully supported across the MicroRidge lineup, including all GageWay wired interfaces and MobileCollect wireless transmitters.
Digimatic S1 is a true instrument-level query protocol — qualitatively different from standard Digimatic. Where standard Digimatic is unidirectional (the interface asserts REQ, the gage outputs a measurement reading, transaction complete), S1 allows the interface to query the instrument directly for metadata: serial number, model identification, calibration data. This enables traceability at the instrument level, not just the measurement level — the data collection system can verify which instrument produced a reading, not just record the value.
GageSync, MicroRidge’s S1 implementation, is scheduled for Q3 2026 on the Mini Mobile Module EVO (M3E). It will be the first MicroRidge interface to surface S1 instrument data to your SPC or quality management system. If your traceability requirements extend to instrument-level data, the 06AGL011 and M3E are the correct hardware to deploy now ahead of the GageSync release.

Selecting the correct cable resolves the gage-side connection. The other end of the signal path — from cable to SPC software — is where MicroRidge interfaces come in.
Wired data collection (GageWay):

Finding MobileCollect wireless cable part numbers: The wireless connector part numbers for each gage type are listed under the Wireless Options section on the corresponding OEM cable product pages. Start with the OEM cable that matches your gage’s connection group, then find the wireless equivalent in the Wireless Options section. For example, the 905338 product page lists the compatible MobileCollect Wireless connectors for each MobileCollect transmitter model. Can I use a 959149 on an indicator that normally takes a 905338?
Physically, yes — both are Group 1 cables and share the same gage-side connector. The 959149 will mate with any indicator that takes the 905338. In practice, the data-send button on the 959149 is simply unused in that application. The more common issue is the reverse: using a 905338 on a caliper station where the operator expects a button-triggered read cycle. That works electrically but changes the workflow — reads must come from a foot switch or the interface instead.
My indicator is a Series 543 — how do I know if it takes the 905338 or the 06AGL011?
Check the series code on the instrument. Pre-2023 ID-C and ID-F indicators (543-200 through 543-6XX range) use the 905338 Group 1 connector. NX-series indicators introduced in 2023 (543-70X, 543-71X, 543-72X, 543-73X) use the 06AGL011 Group 6 SF connector. The two connectors are not physically interchangeable — if the cable won’t seat, you have the wrong group. Use the MobileCollect Selection Tool to confirm by model number.
I have a mixed gage floor — some micrometers, some calipers, some indicators. Do I need a different interface for each cable type?
No. All connection groups feed the same Digimatic protocol into your GageWay or MobileCollect interface. GageWay Pro supports multi-gage configurations across mixed cable types on a single interface. MobileCollect handles mixed fleets wirelessly with each transmitter paired to its gage regardless of cable group. Group 6 instruments with D2 output are fully supported across the MicroRidge lineup.
What’s the difference between the 05CZA624 and 05CZA662 — can I use either on my IP-rated gage?
Both are Group 2 cables with the same water-resistant gage-side connector, so either will physically mate with any instrument in the group. The 05CZA624 is specified for coolant-proof calipers; the 05CZA662 for coolant-proof micrometers. If your measurement station layout makes one cable’s geometry more practical than the other, the swap is electrically valid.
What does “S1” actually mean for my data collection setup — and does it work today?
S1 is an instrument-level query protocol supported by NX-series indicators (via the 06AGL011) and QuantuMike IP65 micrometers (via the 06AGL111). Where standard Digimatic is a one-way transaction (REQ → measurement reading), S1 allows the interface to query the gage directly for instrument metadata: serial number, model identification, calibration data. This enables traceability at the instrument level, not just the measurement level. MicroRidge’s GageSync feature, which surfaces this data through the M3E transmitter, is scheduled for Q3 2026. D2 (higher-resolution measurement output) is a separate capability from S1 and is active now across the full MicroRidge lineup.
